Potassium Permanganate, 100g

Potassium permanganate is a powerful oxidizing agent and a popular chemical compound with various applications in medicine, industry, and laboratory settings. It is commonly known for its vibrant purple color and distinctive odor. Being a strong oxidizer, it can burn skin and eyes. It will stain brown everything it touches. Always use safety protective gear including rubber gloves and goggles

For shipping, Potassium Permanganate is in hazardous materials Class 5: Oxidizer. It only ships to destinations within the 48 contiguous US states and Canada using Standard Ground by FedEx or UPS • No air deliveries allowed • Customers in Canada should expect additional duties, taxes, and customs clearance service fees due upon delivery.

Used in our following patina formulas:

• No. 26 for Yellow (For Cast Bronze)
• No. 31 for Variegated Yellow-Brown (For Cast Brass)

Used in growing crystals:

Potassium permanganate readily forms dark purple, rhombic crystals. Read our article, “Growing Large Crystals with Seed Crystals” for more information.

Potassium Permanganate + Glycerin = Fire

To perform fire-making:

• Put approximately two heaping tablespoons potassium permanganate in a fire proof container or outdoor surface.
• Add several drops of glycerine to a depression in the top of the chemical.

Potassium permangante is a strong oxidizing agent and glycerine is easily oxidized. The “exothermic” reaction begins as the glycerine begins to boil and give off smoke. Eventually a flame will appear and spread over the potassium permanganate and all the glycerine will be consumed.

Shipping note: When Potassium Permanganate and Glycerin are ordered together, they will need to ship in separate containers and thus incur separate shipping charges.
