Sodium carbonate (soda ash) is a white, crystalline powder with an alkaline taste. Soluble in water and glycerin, insoluble in alcohol. Its many uses include in photography, cleaning compounds, pH control, and glass manufacturing. When burned, sodium carbonate gives a yellow flame.
